While we greatly appreciate and support privacy, we believe that adding support for private profiles causes more damage than good.
Third Party Tools
As an open platform, savvy users can develop their own tools to recreate profiles. Users who made their profiles private may have let their guard down with a false sense of security.
Moderation
Private profiles create hurdles with community moderation. Moderators often need to be able to see users’ activity across all communities in order to correctly assess whether they are violating community rules.
We understand that we could grant moderators an ability to view private profiles, but all factors taken into consideration, the reality is that private profiles are an illusion on open platforms.
